International Observers Declared that the Presidential Election was “Free and
Fair”
In May 2018, Nicolas Maduro was declared the winner of the Presidential Election held on May 20.More than 150 international election observers from 56
countries were certified by the Electoral Council to monitor the 2018 Election as part of its International Accompaniment Program. The
observers included journalists, government officials, politicians, electoral
experts, academics, social movement leaders and others. Four regional mission
reports and one overall summary report were released.
Summary Report from the Accompaniment Mission as a whole:[1]

“We the international accompaniers consider that
the technical and professional trustworthiness and independence of the National
Electoral Council of Venezuela are uncontestable.”
The Council of Electoral Experts of Latin America (CEELA):[1]

“The will of the citizens, freely expressed in
ballot boxes was respected. The results communicated by the National Electoral
Council reflect the will of the voters who decided to participate in the
electoral process.”
Caribbean Report (Observers from St Vincent and the
Grenadines, Antigua and Barbuda, Domenica and Grenada):[1]

“The results of the elections reflect the will
of the majority of voters in Venezuela.”
African Report (Observers from Tunisia, South Africa, Ghana,
Congo, Nigeria, and the African Union):[1]

“This was a free, fair and transparent
expression of the human right to vote and the results announced on the night of
May 20 are trustworthy.”
Canadian Report: (Observers from a Teachers Federation,
Postal Workers Union, and the United Church):[3]

“We witnessed a transparent, secure, democratic
and orderly electoral and voting process.”
